About MATT

MATT is currently a pro-tem committee committed to forming the first technical alliance in Malaysia. Malaysia’s leading technical design and management professionals in the performing arts industry formed the pro-tem committee. MATT aims:

1. To enable, facilitate and support the improvement of technical expertise in the performing arts in Malaysia through training, networking and info exchange.

2. To establish and manage a database of technical expertise, equipment and suppliers.

In line with the first objective, we would like to explore ways in which we could learn the best practice of theatre technicians and designers from around the world in the following disciplines:

• Company Stage Management
• Production Management
• Stage Management
• Technical Stage Management
• Theatre Electrics
• Set Design
• Light Design
• Sound Design
• Video/Multimedia Design
• Costume Design
• Hair and makeup
• Health and Safety

This technical and knowledge programme can take the following formats:

1. Master classes or workshops where a leading proponent in any of the above fields comes over to Malaysia to conduct a course or a workshop that would ideally have both theoretical and practical elements.
2. Training/Work placement where a theatre practitioner is chosen to train at an international Venue or Company in any of the above.
3. Joint productions, which involve production with internatioanl cast and Malaysian technicians and or designers, guided by an international technical director or designer.
4. Seminars or talks from visiting international companies on production values and technical tips
5. Contributions to a Video library of international theatre productions that can be viewed by MATT members to keep up with new ideas.
